      this video is a good start for that! ruclips.net/video/RlnrtKlrNdU/видео.html ultimately it really depends on where you're starting in your journey and what specific habits you have, but I'd start with the three places I mention in that video, and the order I explain in that video is really helpful!

  • @matimoi

    But how do you stop your chest voice from going too high, I feel like I'm shouting and then I go into head voice. And with the NAY NAY exercise I have to chose between chest and head voice, I have those two registers well developed, but I don't understand how you mix. Help!

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals 2 дня назад

      mixed voice will definitely solve the problem of chest voice going too high/turning into shouting or flipping to head voice! mixed voice is actually a different placement than chest voice or head voice - a lot of people fall into the trap of trying to do mixed voice from one or the other, but it's actually in a place in your mouth between them. here's a video on the Nay exercise! ruclips.net/video/FvP0U9o1NRs/видео.html For most people, this can be a very elusive placement to find, and sometimes there are habits that block it off/make it harder to access. If you give this a shot and still run into issues, I'd be happy to do an online lesson with you to help you find it! But definitely give that video a try first and see how it goes!! :)

    So how do you transition from the nay to the nice sounding sound? What do you change exactly?

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals 24 дня назад

      To go from the Nay sound to the nice sound, you just use singing vowel mouth shapes! The Nay exercise sounds so “bad” because when your mouth is that closed (which is helpful to find the placement), it sounds really cringy, or rather just too “bright”. To get rid of that, all you have to do is open up the space in your mouth, and you do that with singing vowels. You can’t sound cringy with singing vowel mouth shapes, haha. But opening up the space will most likely yank your placement out of mixed voice when you’re new to this, so get used to the placement with your mouth closed first and then practice going into a singing vowel. In this video is an example of going from the Nay exercise to a singing vowel to the words: ruclips.net/video/0nblvip0HQI/видео.htmlsi=PTDXPgcXqEiU8pWQ And in this video I go over singing vowels: ruclips.net/video/JCgwjBmlHjc/видео.htmlsi=wvZB5SQ-UF81FTgi

    do you have to work on Nyah with a higher register? I find it quite hard to do it with the real pitch of the song I'm doing bc I'm making it chest voice

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals 24 дня назад

      yes, you will use Nyah in a higher pitch as well! If it’s difficult, it sounds like you might still be trying to use your throat/the placement is too close to your throat. Try to imagine your voice concentrating really close to your front teeth, and think about your voice going forward, toward the front of your face as you sing higher. It should feel really free and easy, and it should sound “annoying”, haha. So if it feels heavy or doesn’t sound “cringy” or even almost nasally, it’s probably still stuck in your throat. If you still run into issues with this, I’d be happy to help you in an online lesson sometime! But really focus on making it “annoying”- and if you’ve seen the show Friends, think about Janice’s voice haha. That’s the goal xD (if you haven’t seen Friends, RUclips search the character Janice from Friends haha). :)

  • @jacquelinesingsjazz-gb4vi
    @jacquelinesingsjazz-gb4vi 27 дней назад

    For placement, is there a word to use for practicing head voice?

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals 24 дня назад

      Nope! Haha, so the reason for that is Nyah works to close off the back of your mouth so that your voice can only go in the front of your mouth (where belting should be). Nay works to close off the front of your mouth, so that your voice only goes in the back (where mixed voice should be). Closing off a space of your mouth is a great help when learning so that you’re only giving your voice one option. Once you practice it enough, you no longer need the exercise because your voice just starts to naturally go in the right place. Head voice register has to do with volume, rather than closing off part of your mouth. Any time you lower your volume when singing, you are naturally going into head voice. So any “head voice exercise” I use is really only just lowering the volume. You can feel this happen if you sing a note for a few seconds pretty loudly, then repeat it as softly as you can. Feel how your voice moves-when you were loud to when you got quiet, you’ll feel your voice move backwards in placement just due to lowering volume. That’s the key! :)

    Are there any tips for not over exaggerating these vowel sounds when first trying them?

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals 24 дня назад

      I think that’s actually not a bad thing! I tend to exaggerate them a little when using them to warm up. But the best way would be to use the photos of the singers in this video of all 5 vowels and try to match them up with your own shape in the mirror. Also, make sure that even if these shapes feel different than you are used to, make sure they’re not painful or uncomfortable! You never want to feel like you’re unhinging your jaw or keeping open to the point of it being uncomfortable!
